General Information

Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo are places full of magic, located only 10 minutes apart, but linked by a beautiful bay nestled by cliffs and spectacular beaches embraced by evergreen mountains and dense tropical vegetation all year round.

Zihuatanejo is a picturesque fishing village, which offers a family atmosphere, in its bays you can enjoy crystal clear and calm waters. Because of its orientation, its sunsets are magical and full of bright colors, a unique spectacle.

Ixtapa is a modern destination perfectly urbanized with a great variety of hotels and with an important marina with capacity to moor more than 600 boats. It is a mix of modern and colonial, which makes it vibrant for you to live an authentic experience giving it a touch of elegance and distinction.

 

Attractions & Tours

Besides being able to enjoy its natural beauty, to be able to practice all kinds of water sports, sunset cruises, deep-sea fishing, golf, bird watching and interesting museums in majestic colonial buildings.

Its beaches are a main attraction within  a 35 kms. bay of crystalline water & golden sand. Los Morros de Potosí is a cave system with an impressive beauty, you can find from seahorses, sea urchins, crabs, octopuses, moray eels, to stone fish, grouper, angel fish and sole.

Ecotourism is one of the best options to enjoy mountain biking, low-difficulty mountaineering, rappelling & hiking, ocean rafting to paddle to Ixtapa Island snorkeling, visiting its beautiful beaches, relaxing and enjoying a good tan, finalizing with  delicious seafood dish.

Ixtapa has two golf courses with 18 holes where you can enjoy tropical vegetation, an old coconut plantation and natural lakes.

 

Connectivity

The International Airport of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is an international airport, it receives thousands of tourists every year in 2019 it received 625,189 passengers, recently it was remodeled, in total it offers service to 21 destinations 6 national and 15 international with 18 airlines 7 national and 11 international.

 

Hotel infrastructure

As far as hotel infrastructure is concerned, Ixtapa is home to large tourism hotels, mostly from prestigious chains; while Zihuatanejo has small, very exclusive boutique hotels. In total, the destination has 7,300 rooms in 237 hotels, of which 2,950 are 5-star, 1,230 are 4-star and 110 are 3-star.

 

Gastronomy

The food in Ixtapa is more than a pleasure, there are hundreds of restaurants that offer from the typical regional food made from the freshest seafood to the most select international food. To talk about traditional food is to enjoy fish strips, marinated in lemon juice, red onion and pepper, there are also fresh dishes direct to your table such as  red clams, oysters, red snapper, and octopus in its ink.

Another traditional dish is the Aporreadillo, is prepared with dried beef, scrambled with egg and ranch sauce with criollo pepper, onion, tomato and garlic, the Pork Pozole Guerrero style, well known can be green or white with pork meat is usually eaten on Thursdays and can be accompanied by a delicious mezcal.

 

Event facilities

There are multiple places for events to mention one, there is the Azul Ixtapa Convention Center, it is recognized as one of the best enclosures at the destination, it is an ideal multifunctional space for the realization of congresses, conventions, exhibitions, social events, corporate events, fairs, conferences, gala dinners, theme parties.

The Azul Ixtapa Convention Center, it has a unsurpassed world-class scenario elegantly decorated, has more than 2,000 sq.m. in two levels, the largest venue in the Mexican Pacific at the hotel level, which can accommodate up to 2,200 participants in auditorium-type assembly and 1,500 in banquet. The main floor can be divided into up to 7 sections. The upper level has 8 break outs, a private terrace for breaks and an executive VIP room, all with ocean views. It also has a Business Center. Nightlife

Ixtapa has live music bars to innovative clubs with an avant-garde atmosphere, there are also places with a mix of nightclub, bar and restaurant, with shared tables, good music and lots of atmosphere, in Zihuatanejo you will find a restaurant-bar to enjoy a delicious dinner to places with alternative rock proving that live music and a good drink will make the perfect mix for an unforgettable night.

 

Beaches

Most of them are quiet beaches that can be enjoyed with the whole family with their transparent waters and golden sand are the perfect setting for unforgettable sunsets, the most traditional and crowded beaches are Municipal Beach, La Madera, La Ropa and Las Gatas beach.

Palmar beach offers water sports and parachute trips, Linda beach, due to its swell is where the surfing tournaments are carried out, Las Gatas beach, is to spend a day of retreat with a great variety of restaurants and bars, its origin has name in the great quantity of cat sharks that inhabit the nearby waters besides an infinity of multicolored fish.

Playa la Ropa is the longest beach in Zihuatanejo bay, there you can carry out various water sports, its name comes from the legend of a Spanish galleon that sank in front of the bay and the clothes and fabrics floated to shore.
