San Bartolo is  a town of pre-Hispanic origin known to have been a Zapotec settlement. Around 1532 Hernan Cortés, commissioned San Bartolome soldier who authorized the Spanish colony to build the Catholic temple, also named as the first Spanish-style city hall.
