Teotitñan town was originally named Teocaltitlan, currently named Teotitlán, its meaning comes from two Nahuatl words: “Land of Gods”, Teotl: God, Calli: house, Titlan: Between. It is called: “Between the House of God”.
Tilcajete artisans are dedicated to wood crafts and elaboration of the famous “Alebrijes” The name “Tilcajete” is composed of “Til”, meaning “cochineal ink”; and “Cajete”, meaning a mound of surrounding stones at the source of water from a waterwheel.
Atzompa is situated in the center of the state of Oaxaca in Cerro del Bonete and in Santa María town. This site was a monumental complex belonging to Monte Alban, a town deeply rooted in its customs and traditions.
